It’s an incredible level of stupidity. Can you imagine what went through her mind as the bridge started collapsing around her?
From another article:
After several attempts to turn the truck around in various locations nearby, she decided to drive it across the bridge over Lick Creek. [She]
went on to reveal to authorities that she had driven over the bridge before in her own car and was fully aware of the 6-ton weight limitation. However, she had no idea that when converted, her truck was transporting over 21 tons of water.

The article says the truck’s insurer paid $750,000 to repair the bridge. It’s not clear if that covered the whole cost, but it sounds like maybe it did. Though if that’s the case, it sounds way cheaper than I would have expected.

This also happened in Missouri in August.
Looks like the trailer was decapitated.

You’d think a CDL would include basics like understanding your weight.

I mean, the truck definitely weighed less than 69 tons, so everything should have been good!

If I were to approach that in my car I would stop and assume that I had somehow driven onto a bike path. That semi driver should have their license shredded, both CDL and the regular one. Give them a cargo bike and an uber eats subscription.

Driving AND math are hard. As are landings.

Looking at how it was, its amazing that was repairable, but I guess iron is pretty malleable, after all.

And also backing up - I remember the original article mentioned that she considered stopping and turning around, as there was space available to back the truck up and maneuver, but she wasn’t comfortable reversing a tractor trailer, so just decided to chance it and go ahead.
